Controlling the NuVo Grand Concerto or Essentia G from an OmniTouch 5.7e or 10p

Controlling the NuVo Grand Concerto or Essentia G from an HAI IP Based Touchscreen

To control the menu operation which allows you to browse music by artist, album, track, genre, playlists, and favorites on a NuVo Grand Concerto or Essentia G audio system using an OmniTouch 5.7e and/or 10p touchscreen (IP based touchscreen), an HAI 93A00-1 Serial Server or equivalent must be used. For this application, the 93A00-1 Serial Server is configured as a server and is used to transmit IP data between the NuVo Grand Concerto or Essentia G and IP based touchscreens.

A second 93A00-1 Serial Server is required to control the NuVo Grand Concerto or Essentia G from an OmniPro II or Lumina Pro controller (HAI controller), if a 93A00-1 Serial Server is being used for communications between the NuVo Grand Concerto or Essentia G and IP based touchscreens. This is necessary to control the NuVo Grand Concerto or Essentia G using automation programs from the HAI controller or to control the NuVo Grand Concerto or Essentia G from OmniTouch 5.7 touchscreens). In this application, the 93A00-1 Serial Server is configured as a client and is used to transmit serial data between the NuVo Grand Concerto or Essentia G and the HAI controller over an IP network.

Connections to the NuVo Grand Concerto or Essentia G

The 93A00-1 is connected between the serial port on the NuVo Grand Concerto or Essentia G and the IP network to allow the NuVo Grand Concerto or Essentia G to communicate directly with the IP based touchscreens. To connect the 93A00-1 to the NuVo Grand Concerto or Essentia G, use a standard straight-through DB-9 male-to-female serial cable.

  1. Plug the female end of the serial cable into the male connector labeled “RS-232” on the 93A00-1 Serial Server.
  2. Plug the male end of the serial cable into the female connector labeled “RS-232” on the NuVo Grand Concerto or Essentia G.
  3. Apply power to the 93A00-1 Serial Server.

Configuring the 93A00-1 Serial Server when Connected to a NuVo Grand Concerto or Essentia G

  1. Open the web browser on your PC and enter the IP address of the 93A00-1 Serial Server in the address bar. For example:  http://192.168.0.102 (this is the factory default IP address of the 93A00-1)
a.   Press “Enter”. The “Username and Password” dialog box will appear.
b.      Type “admin” (default username) in the Username box.
c.       Type “admin” (default password) in the Password box.
d.   Click “OK”. The setup screen will then appear.

  1. Enter the desired IP Address, Subnet mask, Gateway, and Primary DNS.
  2. Change the Serial Port Baud to “57600”.
  3. Change the “Connection Mode” under “Operation Mode” to “TCP Server” (default).
  4. Take note of the “Connection Port Number” under “Operation Mode”, or change it to a desired port (default 50000).
  5. Click “Apply”.
  6. Click “Operation Mode” under “Advance Setup” in the Main Menu on the left.
  7. Change the “Close Connection When Remote Idle” to “0”.
  8. Change “Max TCP Connection” to “4”.
  9. Click “Apply”.

Connections to an OmniPro II or Lumina Pro Controller

The 93A00-1 is connected between the serial port on an HAI controller and the IP network to allow the NuVo Grand Concerto or Essentia G with a connected 93A00-1 to communicate with the HAI controller. To connect the 93A00-1 to a serial port on the HAI controller, use the HAI 21A05-1 Serial PC Cable.

  1. Plug the DB-9 connector on the 21A05-1 Serial Cable Adapter into the male connector labeled “RS-232” on the 93A00-1 Serial Server.
  2. Plug a straight-through 4-position modular cable (same as a standard telephone cable) into the modular connector on the 21A05-1 Serial Cable Adapter.
  3. Plug the other end of the modular cable into one of the build-in modular serial ports on the HAI controller (NOTE: HAI recommends Serial 2).
  4. Set the Serial Function to NuVo Grand Concerto/Essentia G.
  5. Apply power to the 93A00-1 Serial Server.

Configuring the 93A00-1 Serial Server when Connected to an HAI Controller

Open the web browser on your PC and enter the IP address of the 93A00-1 Serial Server in the address bar. For example:
http://192.168.0.102 (this is the factory default IP address of the 93A00-1)

  3. Change the “Connection Mode” under “Operation Mode” to “TCP Client”.
  4. Change the “Connection Port Number” under “Operation Mode” to the connection port number specified for the 93A00-1 Serial Server that is connected to the NuVo Grand Concerto or Essentia G (See Step 5 under Configuring the 93A00-1 Serial Server when connected to a NuVo Grand Concerto or Essentia G).
  5. Change the “Remote Host IP Address” under “Operation Mode” to the IP address specified for the 93A00-1 Serial Server that is connected to the NuVo Grand Concerto or Essentia G (See Step 3 under Configuring the 93A00-1 Serial Server when connected to a NuVo Grand Concerto or Essentia G).
  6. Click “Apply”.

Configuring HAI Automation Studio

When connecting IP based touchscreens to a NuVo Grand Concerto or Essentia G through the 93A00-1, HAI Automation Studio must be used to configure each IP based touchscreen. The following items must be configured in HAI Automation Studio:

  1. Launch HAI Automation Studio.  Automation Studio must Version 1.0.2.55 or later.
  2. Open the Automation Studio Project that will be used to update the touchscreens.
  3. Click on the Touchscreen Design file for the respective touchscreen in the “Project Explorer”.
  4. On the properties tab under “Objects”, scroll down to the “Nuvo” section.
    1. Network Address – Enter the IP address of the 93A00-1 Serial Server that is connected to the NuVo Grand Concerto or Essentia G.
    2. Port – Enter the port number of the 93A00-1 Serial Server that is connected to the NuVo Grand Concerto or Essentia G.
    3. Zone Address – Enter the zone address for this touchscreen to use.*
* Each touchscreen must use a unique zone address to be able to access the NuVo Grand Concerto or Essentia G Menu at the same time. Addresses 17-20 are “virtual” addresses that can be used by any device. The HAI Controller uses Address 20, so touchscreens should start at 19 and work down. Addresses 1-16 may be taken for actual NuVo zone keypads.
